THE PREVENTIVE TREATMENT

The hygienic training

This is the detailed information about the methods of taking care of the hygiene of the mouth, and motivation of the patient to do so. It specially concerns the type of appropriate toothbrush, toothpaste, mouthwash, the use of dental floss and methods of brushing.

The coating

This means the covering the surface of teeth with layer of special preparation (fluorine paint) with the high content of fluorine. This procedure is carried out on the patients with the permanent dentition in order to supply the enamel with the higher amount of fluorine ions. This makes teeth more resistant to caries. The coating is also carried out in order to cover the surface of the uncovered root, neck and to reduce the oversensitivity. The procedure is painless and does not change the colour of teeth.

The sealing

It is used to stop setting of bacteria on molars and premolars (bicuspid teeth). This procedure is carried out on permanent dentition and is advisable immediately after the appearance of masticatory surface of the given tooth in the mouth. The treatment consists of preliminary mechanical leaning of the surface of the tooth (toothbrush and toothpaste), etching and putting the liquid sealing wax and hardening it with the use of the polimerizative lamp. This thin layer protects the tooth from the caries. It is necessary to remember about the periodical control of the wax as it can be wiped out under the powers of chewing.

Scaling – the elimination of tartar

This is the mechanical procedure mostly with the use of the ultrasonic scalar, rarely with the use of manual kit (patients with pacemaker). It consists of the removal of the tartar that was created after mineralization of the dental plague. The main reason why the tartar is deposited is the composition of the saliva of a patient, his diet and the hygiene of the mouth. The tartar deposits mainly in the front part of a jaw and near the upper molars (this is where the salivary glands are situated). The tartar is made of bacterial plague and it is necessary to remember that its regular cleaning prevents from gum diseases, parodontosis and improves the hygiene of the mouth. The endings of ultrasonic tools do not exert any pressure on the tooth but only the vibration created on their endings destroys the plague. The treatment should be carried out at least twice a year (basing on the individual needs of the patient).

Sanding

It consists of the removal of the deposit that was created after coffee, tea, cigarettes as well as careless brushing. The procedure is carried out with the use of utensil – sending machine. The microscopic grains of sand(sodium bicarbonate) are thrown under pressure with the flow of water. It is good to remember that the effect of sanding can be preserved for a long period of time keeping the good hygiene of the mouth. Because of the composition of the powder used in sanding this procedure should not be performed on patients with asthma and those under low-salt diet.

ATTENTION It is not allowed to drink coffee or tea and smoke cigarettes in the time of 3 hours from the treatment because the teeth are lacking the protective layer that saves them from colour-change (the proteins that are included in saliva need 3 hours to reconstruct this layer).

Cauterization with silver nitrate

This is the procedure from the border of medical treatment and prevention. This is because of the fact that the preparation used in cauterization do not cure directly but it prevents the existing caries from progress – hardening it. The procedure is carried out on milk teeth and is entirely painless.
